Art@thCore is collaborative program of Stone Paper Scissors, Eveoke Dance Theatre, transcenDANCE Youth Arts Project, North Park Main Street, and the Cultural Worker. with the intent to increase access, engagement, and participation in the civic process through community cultural development. The project involved many students, artists, children, and community members in community art workshops over a period of 6 months. The culmination was a two-part artistic rendering of the stories of the people and the places that make up the sister communities of North Park and City Heights. The gallery installation was designed to reflect the many rich layers of community and neighborhood history that tells a story you can walk through and contribute to. The multi-media installation included individual and collectively created video, photography, murals, and writing that respond to the questions; How does one’s experience of community change with the evolving physical, social and economic vitality of a neighborhood? As artists, what are our responsibilities and opportunities in that transition? How do we as individuals add to the cumulative cultural history of a neighborhood?
